Proposed Engine Emission Regulations Threaten to Remove Sportfishing and Whale Watching Boats from Service

Find out why over 10,000 anglers have joined the 'Save Fishing' petition. The Newsom Administration has proposed engine regulations that will put many California sportfishing and whale watching boat owners out of business.

You can help by signing a petition that asks Governor Newsom to save boats that are essential to providing California anglers and tourists access to the sea. The regulations could start as early as January 2023, unless you help these boat owners. Join a petition at

We strongly recommend anyone that has a trip booked, to call or go online and set up your fish processing reservation as soon as possible. Please don't wait until you get on your trip or set it up after you get back as you'll run the risk of being turned away.

Fishing Conditions - Hoo's Run and Gun 14 Day Return

Hi Gang,

We returned home this morning at 0430 from our annual Hoo's Run and Gun 14 day with an exceptional catch of fish onboard. There was energy in the air with the excitement of the final weigh in of Jim Fitch's big yellowfin. The first order of business was the weigh in. Jim's fish officially weighed 392.5 pounds on the certified scale. What a great fish! I believe it is in the top 5 largest yellowfin tuna ever landed in the San Diego fleet. What an accomplishment! We are all very proud and happy for you Jim! We ended up with 11 over 200 with one of those over 300. 392.5#, 294.5#, 282.2#, 280.0#, 276.6#, 262.0#, 258.1#, 251.7#, 231.4#, 227.9#, 206.6#. Our jackpot winners are as follows: third place went to Ken Bruner with a 276.6 pound yellowfin, second place went to Sam Miyamoto with a 280.0 pound yellowfin, and first place goes to Jim Fitch with a 392.5 pound yellowfin tuna. Strong work men! Thank you to everyone that fished with us. A big thank you to our trip hosts Phil Hein and Dave Mosher for putting together such an awesome trip. We also want to thank all of the generous sponsors that provided all of the awesome giveaways. Wooden Valley Winery, Accurate Fishing, Pelican, Furuno, AFW, Five Star Fish Processing, Mustad, Flexx-Rap, Joe Fitch, Don Kammerzell, Phil and Dave. We are already looking forward to this trip next year. Thanks for checking in. Life is good, Captain Bill Cavanaugh and the Intrepid Team

Fishing Conditions - trip 21-32

After another great day of wahoo fishing we headed up the beach for yellowtail. We had good weather and great fishing. Yo-yo jigs were best method for for the tails. We are spending the day on the beach fishing for bass yellowtail and maybe trying a few halibut drifts. Check back later. Wish us luck. Matt and Independence crew
